Local SEO for trades

Getting found by the people already searching for your trade in your area.

Local search is less mysterious than the industry makes out. For a trade business it comes down to three things: a finished Google Business Profile, consistent details everywhere your business is listed, and a website with a page for each thing you actually do.

Most of the work is tidying up. There is no trick.

What moves the needle, roughly in order

Ignore anyone selling you the fourth item before the first is done.

Consistent details
Three versions of your address across the web.
Identical name, address and phone everywhere.

Asked for on every job, answered within a day.
Links

Suppliers, trade bodies, local sponsorships — slow and safe.

The competitive searches, if the reviews keep coming. This is the part nobody can guarantee and anybody who does is guessing.

Questions people actually ask

Can you guarantee first place?

No, and neither can anyone else. Google does not sell positions and does not publish the algorithm. What I can do is make sure everything within your control is done properly.

How is this different from what an agency charges hundreds a month for?

Mostly it is the same work, done once, without the retainer. The ongoing part is genuinely ongoing — reviews and content — and that is what the monthly covers.

What about AI search? People ask ChatGPT for recommendations now.

They do, increasingly. The good news is that the work is largely the same: accurate, consistent business details and clear pages are what gets a business quoted in an AI answer. There is no separate trick for it.

Want to know where you stand?
